The washer is short of water
Each of 4C, 1 4C, nF and 4E tells you that the fill is not happening as it should. One group of checks from Samsung covers all generations.
Supply hoses and valves
Connect the hot hose to the hot inlet and the cold hose to the cold inlet, keeping every hose free of bends. A hot line left disconnected still causes the error, because even a Cold-labeled cycle may draw some hot water. Flood Safe hoses are not to be used. Both valves need to be fully open for as long as the washer is running.
Drain hose
The drain hose has to be seated properly, straight, and pushed 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe. A screw on the back fastens the hose to the washer and should stay where it is. Should it have been removed, put it and the holder back with any screw that fits; if the holder is gone, service is required.
Power reset
Take power away for one minute, by pulling the plug or switching the breaker, then restore it and run a cycle.
Inlet filters
Debris carried by the supply water collects in filters and can choke the flow. Close the supply valves, detach the hoses at the back of the washer and look into the connection points. Lift out any filter with care, clean it, put the hoses back and open the valves to the full. Request service if the code is still showing.
Codes people confuse with this one
- 4C2, 4E2, CE and nF1 describes cold water arriving extremely hot, since the hoses have changed places.
- 4E1 and 4Ed describes a water temperature issue.
